Four Winns insists on top quality components to produce a top quality boat. The helm is well laid out and Volvo Controls and hydraulic steering make life easy for the pilot. A small v-8, 5.0 litre, 270 HP Volvo with SX drive will move this Funship over 45 mph. At cruise, she will use only about 12 gallons per hour. There is a Raytheon VHF, digital depth finder and magnetic compass. Docking lights aid night piloting. A Clarion AM/FM/CD for aqua tunes.

If you are considering a new boat in the 25-29 foot range, here is the deal for you. One owner, low hours, well taken care of with most of the warranty left, almost every option, fresh water only and I could find nothing that needed to be taken care of. The engines have just reached the broken in time and all of the knit picky new boat flaws are taken care of and actually improved upon. This one is as close to perfect as you will find. At over 200 grand for new, save yourself a bundle.

Formula Boats are well known for being some of the best looking and most comfortable cruising boats afloat. The strong racing heritage brings an exciting ride and feel to the cruisers that they build. This nearly new 09 is no exception. This is the boat that was used in the brochures. It is fully loaded and has been treated to nothing but the best of care. The Flagship Imron Black Onyx Metalic hull is gorgeous and still has warranty through 2014.

One of the first things you notice is the forward sweeping arch, this is a more aestetic and functional position especially in a boat of this size. This is a real plus when boarding from along side slips and finger slips. Not to mention it just plain looks better.

Formula’s designer, John Adams, takes full advantage of space and entertainment seating on this 27PC. The deep-V hull slices the waves and her streamlined exterior styling looks beautiful as you pass others on the beaches. Nice touches like stainless steel logoed cleats add a yacht like touch. Three polished Bomar hatches and 4 portlights allow plenty of light and ventilation. Since she has been in fresh water for her short life, she still looks showroom new.

Layout

You can step onto the swim platform to board or across her gunwales into the spacious entertainment area of the cockpit. L-shaped aft lounge seating has room for lots of friends and family aboard, and the helm and lounge seating has plenty of storage space below. The integrated wet bar is to port and includes a stainless steel sink with storage below for beverage bottles, ice and cups. The deck is protected by carpet and the engine compartment is sound proofed for a nice quiet entertainment area.

Behind the Wheel

The helm is logically laid out with everything within easy reach of the pilot and you will find no problems with visibility or glare from the helm when driving. The helm has Burl wood finish dash panels. The Ritchie compass is easily seen. Livorsi instruments with chrome bezels add to the great looks. Front and center is the Garmin 535, color GPS navigation system. VHF radio. Digital depth sounder. The helm seats are adjustable and very comfortable.

The bow area is accessed up steps in the helm pod and through the curved windshield. The canvas is in perfect shape and there is a camper top also for early and late season use.

The engine compartment is accessed through an electric driven hatch in the cockpit sole and is well insulated from noise. I found that the room below was more than adequate for doing routine maintenance. Not a spec of dirt or oil to be seen in the engine space.

Below Deck

Access to the cabin below is through a curved, plexi glass sliding door that works easily. It locks in place when underway. Below, you will quickly notice many wood accents and cabinetry. The look is very pleasing and gives you a feeling of being aboard a much larger boat. A Toshiba flat panel TV can be seen from the convertible lounge or can be turned so it can be seen easily from the forward V-berth.

The head compartment is a very comfortable size. You can take a real shower without banging elbows on the bulkhead. The mid cabin is much larger than the normal boat of this size. The double berth is a full length or longer. There are several storage spots that are almost hidden until pointed out. No wasted space, just great design. Privacy curtains separate the aft berth when you have guests or children aboard overnight.

The galley is well appointed and the great use of space provides a lot of storage. There is a Contour microwave oven, Kenyon Euro Kira electric stove, with self stowing cover and a deep stainless steel sink.

Performance

This 27 has the upgraded 350Mag engines and will perform well enough to haul tubers or waterskiiers. The Bravo III drives make a perfect match to get a cruising speed of just over 24 MPH while topping off over 50. Handling is great with the big power and deep Vee hull. Formula hulls ride a little better and more efficiently than most of the other boats in her class. Trim tabs to compensate for the crowd you will surely attract.

For a high performance boat she’s pretty roomy down below. She offers a good-size V-berth and twin UltraLeather lounge seats. There’s a hanging locker and plenty of stowage areas as well.

These FasTech s are built to handle all that you can put them through. Formula designed it’s own custom triaxial fiberglass which reinforces strength and rigidity. A fiberglass structural grid is then bonded to the hull to withstand rough offshore conditions. Formula also adds pultrusion reinforcements and fiberglass supports, to the hull for added strength where needed most, usually under the engines and fuel tank.

The bow has little to clutter your view underway. Stainless steel rails surround the bow and come to a point up front with a remote controlled search light for finding your way in the dark. The anchor roller and windless is tucked away under the anchor hatch, and help assist when working the hook in your favorite anchorage. Centered in the bow area is a hatch for ventilation to the cabin below. The walk-through windshield is accessed from the cockpit with steps molded into the cockpit.

A full “wet head” is down here for your cruising convenience. There is a sink with pull out faucet for showering, a head, AC outlets and storage to round out the space.

Topside, the helm is laid out with analog instruments, 2009 Garmin GPS 440S color plotter, digital depth gauge, Boat Levelor Tabs, Icom M-302 VHF and a Ritchie Compass. Switches and breakers are within easy reach. Rinker makes finding the horn a snap with the bright red rocker switch. The remote spotlight is controlled with a joystick to the right of the tilt wheel. The skipper can control the stereo with a remote here at this location. There is a clear Plexiglas cover to keep the charts dry while using them in less than optimum weather.

The stern area has storage for smaller things, safety rails and lots of cup holders for the beverages. Pull the bench seat up and you have a molded-in space for the dingy outboard. The walk-through area has a hatch covering the battery switch and breakers. When you are ready to come back aboard from the water, a swim shower is at the stern with both hot and cold water. The swim platform was new in 08 and is massive.

The Fiesta Vee 270 is really 30’4” in length. She has a 9’1” beam. This 270 is only 7,350 pounds dry weight, so you can tow her with some family vehicles designed to tow a pocket cruiser.
